According to ArmSSR Supreme Council Decree of 15 September 1965 the Material and Technical Supply Department was established

According to ArmSSR Supreme Council Decree of 9 October 1978 the Material and Technical Supply Department was renamed to Material Supply State Committee

According to Government Decree of the Republic of Armenia No 174 of 24 March 1992 the Material Supply State Committee was renamed to the Ministry of Material Resources of the Republic of Armenia

According to RA President Decree No 456 of 25 July 1995 on "Approving The Structure and Order of Functions of Government of the Republic of Armenia", sub-point (a) of Part III and Government Decree No 1 of 4 August 1995 were merged

1. the Ministry of Material Resources
2. "Hajkencaghspasarkum" under the Government of the Republic of Armenia
3. Ministry of Trade
4. general department of Foreign Tourism of the Republic of Armenia

was renamed to the Ministry of Trade, Services and Tourism of the Republic of Armenia.

According to RA President Decree No 747 of 10 June 1997 on "Changes in RA Government Structure" and Government Decree No 251 of 19 June 1997 the Ministry of Trade, Services and Tourism of the Republic of Armenia was merged with

1. the Ministry of Trade, Services and Tourism of the Republic of Armenia
2. the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Armenia
3. the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia

being renamed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Armenia.

According to RA President Decree No 1063 of 16 March 2002 the Ministry of Industry and Trade was reorganized into the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of the Republic of Armenia.

According to RA President Decree on April 21, 2008 the "March 16, 2002 No 1063 decree of the President on Restatements and amendments" the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of RA was renamed to the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia.
