EU Eastern Partnership

The Eastern Partnership initiative was launched on May 7, 2009 at the Eastern Partnership Summit which took place in Prague. By this initiative the Eastern Partnership countries were proposed cooperation of "27 + 6" format (27 EU member states + 6 partner countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).

The Eastern Partnership envisages closer political association and economic integration with the EU, in particular by promoting mobility, energy security, transport, agriculture, environmental cooperation and rapprochement.

The multilateral cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership until 2018 was implemented through four different thematic platforms:

  • Democracy, good governance and stability
  • Economic integration and convergence with EU policies
  • Energy security
  • Contacts between people

On 24 November 2017, the new architecture of the multilateral cooperation of the Eastern Partnership was adopted by the appendix to the Declaration adopted at the 5th Eastern Partnership Summit.

According to the new structure, the Ministry of Economy coordinates the activities under the Platform 2: Economic Development and Market Opportunities and the following Panels since 2018:

  • Structural reforms, Financial sector architecture, Agriculture and SMEs
  • Trade
  • Harmonisation of Digital Markets.
